Mayor’s Charity for 2018/9

Along with 2 other local charities, Basingstoke Mencap has been chosen by the Mayor of Basingstoke to be one of his charities for the coming year. This is great news as we shall receive considerable publicity at many events organised by the mayor’s office including:

  • December 2018 -  Mayor’s Carol Service
  • Saturday March 2nd 2019  - Charity Concert
  • March 2019 Mayoress’  - Coffee Morning
  • April 2019  - Charity Lunch

“Rumble in the Jungle”

This was our latest production for the public staged on June 19th at the Vyne School and was very loosely based upon The Jungle Book. As with the previous 5 productions we are indebted to the support and expertise of Fluid Motion, a local theatrical group.

The evening was a great success. Based upon the work and success of our Dance and Drama Club members, one person has been accepted onto a 2 year drama course at Alton College.

Board of Trustees

It is very pleasing to report that we have 3 new members who have joined us making a total of 6 on the Board. This has given us strength in breadth and depth encouraging us for the challenges ahead. We have at least 2 more vacancies to fill.

“Treat Me Well”

This is a national campaign led by National Mencap to improve the care provided for people with a learning disability when in hospital and attending appointments in the NHS. Basingstoke Mencap has become the 6th local society in Southern England to participate in the campaign and over the next 2 to 3 years we shall be contributing to “TREAT ME WELL” to help bring about reasonable adjustments for those we serve.
